Anesthesia

A Breast Reconstruction is performed under general anesthesia.

Dr. Felipe Schmitt Sánchez will be performing the surgery in the certified operating rooms of the Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga.

Results

The results can be monitored right after the surgery, although it takes about a month to six weeks for the patient to return to their normal routine.

Breast Reconstruction

The goal of breast reconstruction is to restore a normal shape, appearance, symmetry and size to one or both breasts after, for instance, mastectomy, lumpectomy or congenital malformations.

Breast reconstruction generally divides into two categories: implant-based reconstruction and flap reconstruction. Flap reconstruction (or autologous reconstruction) uses the patient’s own tissue from another part of the body to form a new breast, while Implant-based reconstruction uses breast implants to form a new breast mound.

In cases of only one breast being affected, one breast alone can be reconstructed. In addition, a breast lift, breast reduction or breast augmentation may be recommended for the other breast to improve the symmetry of both breasts.
